WASHINGTON – Another member of the D.C. Council has thrown his hat into the ring for next year’s mayoral election.

Jack Evans, a Democrat, announced his candidacy on Saturday in the Logan Circle area of the District. In a statement, he called the city “a rich tapestry” and saying that as mayor he would encourage the growth of Washington, D.C., as a cosmopolitan, world-class city, always on the vanguard of new ideas and positive transformation.”

He added that he would pursue “a school-to-career pathway that focuses appropriate attention on the industries vital to the economy of the District” and work to make the District’s schools “the best in the nation.”

Fellow Council members Muriel Bowser and Tommy Wells are also running in next spring’s Democratic primary. Mayor Vincent Gray has not announced whether he plans to run for a second term — his last campaign is still under investigation.
