ROCKVILLE, Md. – D.C. has it.

New York City recently launched it.

Now, Montgomery County is getting closer to having Bikeshare stations, too.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation launched its BikeShare Web page and announced a series of public meetings on how the program is expected to work.

Under the current plan to expand Capital Bikeshare into the county, 30 bike stations with 250 bikes will be placed in the “downcounty” area, including locations in Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Friendship Heights and Bethesda.

The Rockville and Shady Grove areas will be home to 21 stations and 250 bikes.

According to Sandra Brecher, chief of commuter services with the county’s transportation department, officials are working on ways to improve infrastructure to create a more bike-friendly network.

Brecher says the county’s been working with a consultant on how to implement the program in a suburban setting.
