WASHINGTON – The Taste of Georgetown festival covered several blocks of Wisconsin Avenue with selections from dozens of local establishments on Saturday.

The festival is in its 20th year, and the cornucopia of good eats and buzz-inducing drinks raised money for the homeless support programs at the Georgetown Ministry Center.

Spokesperson Stephanie Chan says that homeless people come to the ministry center for such everyday needs as showers and laundry as well as help in finding housing.

And, she says, they try to bring them back from the streets.”The homeless person you see on the street corner has friends, has family. And we try to reconnect the person with their friends and family.”

Attendee Abby Kamen said that the food and drink and the good cause were a perfect mix. “Any time you can actually enjoy yourself while contributing to a good cause, it’s way better than throwing money at something.”

Last year’s festival raised $25,000. The Ministry has raised more than $120,000, Chan says.
