UPDATE at 5:15 p.m. Police this afternoon are investigating what appears to be a fatal hit-and-run accident outside of the All-Saints Church on the Maryland side of Chevy Chase Circle.

All police know right now is that they were called to the scene, at the intersection of Grafton Street and Chevy Chase Circle, just after 3 p.m. for the report of a man who was severely bleeding. The man left a visible blood trail from the curb at Grafton Street to one of the doors of the church.

John M. Fitzgerald, Chief of the Chevy Chase Village Police, said the man has died.

A nearby homeowner said the Black BMW still on scene is the car of the janitor at the church, who routinely washes his car outside the church.

Montgomery County Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit will investigate the accident. Grafton Street will be closed for some time.
