WASHINGTON – Residents of a quiet street in Norfolk, Va., were surprised recently when a man drove his Ford Focus off the street and onto their lawns.

The man, who onlookers said seemed disoriented, ended up driving onto a family’s pier and stopping, saying he wanted to drink ocean water. He didn’t seem aware that the pier was on the Lafayette River and not the ocean.

After stopping his car, witnesses say he began shouting incoherently and screaming obscenities.
