WASHINGTON – The mother of a girl shot and killed in her own home last fall accepted her daughter’s high school diploma Tuesday.
Amber Stanley was shot several times while she was in her bed. The gunman had kicked in the door to her home in the 100 block of Chartsey Street in Upper Marlboro last August.
Stanley’s mother Irma Gaither accepted the diploma during the Charles H. Flowers High School graduation to cheers, according to ABC 7. Stanley was expected to graduate with honors and she had dreamed of going to Harvard University and becoming a doctor.
The girl’s family told ABC 7 that they hoped Stanley’s photo and her story would encourage anyone with information about the shooter to come forward.
Stanley was the first of several students in Prince George’s County who were shot and killed during the school year.
ABC 7 reports that her case remains unsolved.
In September, Prince George’s County police said they didn’t have a vehicle description or a solid suspect description. And officers distributed fliers seeking information in her death.
