(redirect)Md. boat explosion leaves 6 children, 1 adult injured

EDGEWATER, Md. — Anne Arundel County fire officials say seven people have been hospitalized after an explosion and fire on a boat in the South River near Edgewater, Maryland.

It happened about noon Monday at the Oak Grove Marina. Fire Department Division Chief Keith Swindle says the 32-foot pleasure boat had just refueled when the engine stalled. He said while someone was trying to restart the engine, an explosion and flash fire occurred.

Swindle says three children, ages 9 and 13, were taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and three adults were taken to a local hospital.

Two of the children are being treated for burns at a hospital burn unit.

Authorities say none of the injuries is life-threatening.

The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the explosion.
