WASHINGTON – Christina Robinson, of Lorton, says that outside of a few office pools, she’d only played the lottery three times in her life.

Evidently, that was enough. On Friday, Robinson was awarded the $1 million prize that she won in last Saturday’s Powerball drawing.

Robinson was awarded the big – in more ways than one – check in the Food Lion on Route 1 where she bought her ticket. She recalled that she was in the store picking up some groceries last Friday when the lure of the $590 million jackpot enticed her to take a chance.

“I just said, ‘What the heck; I’ll buy 20 dollars worth of tickets,'” she remembers.

It wasn’t until she was at work the following Monday that she bothered to check her numbers and found that she had matched the five main numbers and missed only the Powerball number, making her one of 33 million-dollar winners from last week’s drawing.

She says her first reaction was “disbelief” — until a co-worker told her that a million-dollar winning ticket had been sold in Lorton.

Robinson was convinced — she immediately got a safe-deposit box for the ticket.

After taxes, Robinson will be left with $710,000, which she describes as “better than love.”
