Foods can be useful for more than just eating

WASHINGTON – If you spend Memorial Day weekend getting too much sun, an old lifeguard’s trick can help: apple cider vinegar can ease the sting of sunburned skin.

But it isn’t limited to vinegar – lots of other foods can also be useful in unique ways outside of the fridge and pantry.

When used as a cold compress, chamomile tea can help relieve inflammation on irritated skin, according to a dermatologist in Health Magazine.

A list of alternate food uses also includes sniffing lemon zest to improve a bad mood, since lemon oil is popular in aromatherapy, and yogurt facials. According to the magazine, the live bacteria in plain Greek yogurt can remove toxins and the yogurt’s acidity can balance the skin’s pH.
