Virginia was ranked sixth in a Bankrate.com study of the 10 best states for retirement.

While the warm weather in states like Florida or Arizona may make them a popular choice when deciding where to live after your working years, the study considered other factors, including cost of living, access to medical care and crime.

Virginia scored well because of residents’ access to health care, the state’s cost of living and its low crime rate.

Tennessee took the top spot because of its low cost of living and low tax burden.
