2 rescued from NE D.C. house fire

WASHINGTON – Firefighters rescued two people from a house fire in Northeast D.C. Sunday afternoon.

The D.C. Fire Department says they arrived at the fire of the 100 block of 50th Street NE around 1:30 p.m.

A 70-year-old woman and 50-year-old man were both taken to the hospital with life- threatening injuries. A fire department spokesperson could not elaborate on the extent of their injuries.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming out of the second floor windows.

The Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
