WASHINGTON – A plane crashed about three miles from the Stafford Regional Airport off of Cranes Corner Road in Virginia.

Virginia State Police Spokesman Sgt. Frederick Tyler says the single engine fixed- wing Piper Saratoga lost power as it approached the airport about 7 a.m. Sunday morning and crashed into some trees.

Tyler says 63-year-old Daniel Hoyt of White Stone, Va., who was the pilot, and 51- year-old Alberto Toleda of Ervington, Va. were taken to Mary Washington Hospital with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The plane had taken off from Hummel Air Field in Saluda about a half hour before the crash.

The FAA is investigating the crash.
