Maryland state troopers injured by drunken driver

WASHINGTON – Two Maryland state troopers are recovering after their patrol car was hit by a drunken driver early Friday morning in College Park, Md.

The incident occurred while Trooper First Class Manuel Moreno, 42, and Trooper John Cabrera, 34, were investigating a crash on northbound Interstate 95 just after midnight, officials say. The two men had just finished setting up a flare pattern to warn oncoming traffic and returned to their marked vehicle when a 2001 Pontiac Sunbird slammed into the patrol car from behind.

Both troopers were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, 48-year-old Arcenia D. Macklin of Laurel, Md., has been charged with driving under the influence.
