Local Mass honors Pope Benedict XVI

WASHINGTON – A special Mass in honor of Pope Benedict the XVI and to unite Catholics across the region was held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Sunday.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl spoke at the Mass in Washington to thank Pope Benedict for leading, teaching and inspiring Catholics around the world.

Wuerl is now on his way to Italy where he will take part in the conclave and in the selection of the next Pope.

Wuerl had the same reaction as many Catholics did to the Pope’s resignation. He expressed that he believes the Pope’s decision shows a deep humility.
