WASHINGTON – Montgomery County police are looking for vandals who spray painted hate- and profanity-laced messages on two vehicles, including a police car, in Bethesda last weekend.

Police are investigating a series of vandalisms in the Woodhaven neighborhood as possible hate crimes,

Officers were called to the 6700 block of Melody Lane about 3:15 a.m. Sunday and found a vehicle marked with profanity and a depiction of male genitalia in black spray paint.

In the same area, police found a Montgomery County police K-9 vehicle that was also spray painted. In addition to profanity and explicit images, the vandals sprayed a black swastika and anti-gay comments on the squad car, police say.

Later that same morning, police were called to the 8200 block of Wahly Drive for two more vandalism reports. A light post was spray painted and a swastika was sprayed onto a large landscaping rock, police say.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the vandalism to call police at 301-657-0112 or email a tip to BISTips@montgomerycountymd.gov. Tipsters may remain anonymous. A cash reward of up to $2,000 is available for information that leads to an arrest.
