Brothers fix ‘uh oh’ moments for phone owners

Neal Augenstein, wtop.com

WASHINGTON – It’s the moment when you simultaneously feel foolish, angry and poorer — the moment you drop and shatter an expensive iPhone.

“We’ve heard so many stories — people dropping their device in the bathroom, dropping it in the driveway on the way to work,” says Trevor Lyman, who with his brother Colin, own a mobile repair business called CrackedMacScreen.

“It’s definitely one of those moments you wish you could take it back, and you can’t.”

And don’t bother trying to repair that iPhone yourself, Lyman says. Most come with between 40 and 50 tiny screws that can confuse the average person.

“We’ve had people bring us their phone in a plastic bag, and the screws all mixed up,” he says. “They’ll look at us and are just ‘I don’t know what I was doing — I don’t know why I tried this myself.'”

CrackedMacScreen can repair iPhones, iPads, iPod Touch and Macbooks. They will even come to you, and can usually complete repairs in under an hour. Their services are available in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Customers can also mail devices for repair.
