REPORTS TO: Program Director
HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours/wk
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
DEPARTMENT: Programming

LOCATION: 3400 Idaho Ave., NW, Washington, DC

POSITION SUMMARY:

Investigates, gathers, produces and delivers relevant factual news stories for on-air newscasts, online articles and social media platforms, including but not limited to covering breaking news, generating and developing stories and sources, writing news scripts, operating audio equipment and interacting with social media.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • 5 years of news reporting experience
  • Local knowledge of Washington, D.C. market
  • Expertise in news-gathering, writing, editing, broadcast & online production
  • Knowledge of, and ability to use, effective social media tools
  • Possess broad knowledge of local and regional issues
  • Ability to conduct online research, word processing, and digital editing
  • Ability to handle stress effectively
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor
  • Ability to work in compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Ability to function in a team environment
  • Ability to work established schedule and other hours as needed
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Journalism, Communications, related field or related experience
  • Assertive, communicative, inquisitive
  • Knowledge and experience reporting news in a major market

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:

  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to manipulate computer keys and general office equipment (telephone, copier, calculator, etc.) for extended periods of time
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly and follow both oral and written direction
  • The Company may make reasonable accommodations to facilitate the ability to perform essential job functions
  • Outdoor exposure to heat, cold, and environmental elements
