Police arrest suspect in Olney shooting

WASHINGTON – Detectives in Olney have arrested a suspect in last night’s shooting incident.

The shooting occurred Monday night around 10:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Morningwood Drive.

Three males were in a car on Morningwood Drive when one of them was shot by another in the car.

The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Detectives believe that this incident may be drug-related.

Earlier Tuesday, the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Daniel Alexander Paynter of Olney, arrived at the 4th District station to provide information about the incident.

Paynter was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant.

Paynter is charged as an adult with attempt first degree murder, armed robbery and related assault and firearm charges.

He is being held without bond and is scheduled for a bond review at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Rockville.
