New Facebook message method: Talking

Neal Augenstein, wtop.com

WASHINGTON – Have you had the chance to try the new way of communicating on Facebook?

It’s old school. It’s called “speaking.”

As of last week, people with Android or iOS mobile devices can download the free Facebook Messenger application, and send voice messages up to a minute long.

By pressing Record Voice, then pressing and holding a red Record button, a mobile user’s audio is automatically uploaded to the other user’s profile, and appears as a Message.

The sound quality of the recording is mediocre — not quite as good as a cellphone message.

While many rarely listen to voicemail messages, some question the need for a Facebook communication method that involves waiting through a recording.

But there are some times when you don’t have the time or inclination to type several hundred words — like leaving directions.
