Amtrak boosts D.C. to NYC Acela service

Amtrak is adding a late-evening Acela Express run between New York and Washington, boosting weekday Acela service between the two cities to 16.

Amtrak says it plans to further expand its high-speed rail service between Washington and New York.

The additional Acela Express service includes an 8 p.m. departure from Washington to New York, and a 9:15 p.m. departure from New York to Washington. Both trips take about 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Amtrak has already said it will begin the process early this year of buying next-generation high-speed train sets to expand seating capacity and provide more frequent high-speed service on its Northeast Corridor.
