WASHINGTON – A United States senator has been arrested in Northern Virginia on DUI charges.

Alexandria Police say Republican Sen. Michael Crapo of Idaho was stopped at 12:45 a.m. Sunday morning after running a red light.

The officer who pulled Crapo over on Mount Vernon Avenue at the Hume Avenue intersection in Del Ray says Craypo failed field sobriety tests.

The senator was arrested without incident.

He’s been released on bond. Crapo has a court date Jan. 4th.
