UPDATE: Twitter has officially announced the photo filters. The updated apps should appear on your phone soon.

WASHINGTON – Twitter reportedly wants to roll out its own photo filters by the end of the year, potentially in time for Christmas.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, All Things D reports Twitter is currently testing an app update that would bring native Instagram-like photo filters by the end of the year.

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey has been posting a number of filtered photos lately, directly to Twitter.

Instagram, owned by Facebook, poked at Twitter this week by keeping Instagram photos from showing up in Twitter’s in-timeline preview.

Instagram is trying to draw more people onto its website who currently post a photo to Instagram then share the link on Twitter.
