Car smashes into Adams Morgan McDonalds, shuts down intersection

WASHINGTON – A driver of a gray SUV crashed into the Adams Morgan McDonalds just after 3 p.m. Friday shutting down traffic in that area.

It happened at the intersection of 18th Street and Columbia Road NW, closing the intersection completely. Traffic was closed in all directions.

The SUV was lodged in the front door of the restaurant and took down the glass, part of the brick facade and ceiling in the entryway.

Firefighters had to rescue one customer caught in the rubble of the restaurant after the accident occurred. That customer and the driver were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries according to police.

Investigators believe the driver had a medical emergency which caused the accident.
