WASHINGTON – Mayors representing some of the largest cities in Maryland say they need more state tax revenue to keep up with road maintenance and snow removal costs.
Mayors from Gaithersburg, Rockville, and Takoma Park say they need to see a fair share of transportation dollars coming back from Annapolis.
They discussed their priorities for the upcoming General Assembly session, which begins Jan. 9, with state legislators during a joint House and Senate priorities hearing.
And not just mayors are concerned about transportation funding. The Gazette reports that business and real estate leaders say the county’s economic growth could suffer if residents can’t get from place to place for work or errands because of gridlock.
State lawmakers will decide how to divvy up transportation revenue for municipalities during the legislative session.
