Great white video makes splash

WASHINGTON – A rare, white whale has been spotted off the coast of Norway.

And video of the creature, which appears green below the water, is making a splash.

The U.K.’s Daily Mail reports that the whale likely has a condition called condition called leucism, which causes a lack of pigmentation in the whale’s skin.

A National Geographic blog reporting on the rare sighting says that animals with the condition rarely survive long in the wild because their white color makes it easy for predators to spot them.

The video shows the whale swimming alongside other whales in its pod. And the blog reports that the whale appears to be an adult.
