Maryland in serious negotiations with the Big Ten

WASHINGTON – Multiple sources report that the University of Maryland is considering leaving the ACC to join the Big Ten Conference.

CBS Sports reports that the school is currently in serious negotiations with the intercollegiate sports conference that includes teams such as Penn State and Ohio State.

No date for the switch has been set, but Washington Post Reporter Alex Prewitt said Maryland could join as early as next week.

One stumbling block for Maryland could be the finances associated with the change. The ACC recently raised its exit fee to $50 million.

If Maryland moves from the ACC to the Big Ten, Rutgers – currently of the Big East Conference – is expected to follow suit, giving the Big Ten 14 members.
