Macy’s unveils new GPS app

WASHINGTON – It’s easy to lose a sense of direction in massive department stores. Throw in frantic holiday shoppers and a looming Black Friday and it’s almost guaranteed.

But Macy’s flagship store in New York City has a solution: a feature on its iPhone app that gives customers turn-by-turn directions to navigate them through the store.

That’s right. GPS for shopping.

Currently the app is only available for iPhones and only for the Macy’s located in NYC’s Herald Square location but the company who developed the platform, Meridian, tells Mashable more will follow.

“Macy’s is kind of the leader right now in a lot of digital initiatives. They’ve been trying out lots of digital initiatives to engage with shoppers in their homes and in stores,” said Jeff Hardison, VP of Marketing and Business for Meridian.

New York shoppers or anyone curious can download the app from iTunes or the App Store.
