Sesame Street tackles Superstorm Sandy

WASHINGTON – Big Bird will face the reality of many New Yorkers on Friday: He will lose his home to a massive storm. But the big, yellow Muppet will also find love and support in his friends on Sesame Street.

The popular children’s show plans to air a special episode this week in support of Superstorm Sandy victims.

The show’s Tumblr blog said the special show focuses on cooperation, and how people can help each other in Sandy’s aftermath. Big Bird will face many emotions, such as anger, sadness, and confusion, after the loss of his nest.

But Big Bird is lucky. He has many friends around to help him. The blog said Big Bird’s friends help him through his emotions by drawing pictures with him, talking about what happened and hugging him. They also offer him places to eat, sleep, and play while his home is being rebuilt.

At the end of the episode, Big Bird is able to move into his rebuilt nest, and thanks his friends for all their love and support.
