Montgomery council to meet on drug prevention, education

ROCKVILLE, Md. – The Montgomery County Council will be holding a meeting on drug prevention, intervention and education programs in county schools.

The meeting of three different committees is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Rockville on Thursday.

At an April meeting, officers from the county police department reported that certain areas of the county have seen increased use of illegal drugs, as well as an increase in abuse of prescription drugs.

The Washington Examiner reports the Damascus area has seen multiple drug-related deaths, and that the number of people in Maryland seeking treatment related to prescription drugs more than doubled between 2007 and 2010.
