Water Main Break On Wisconsin Avenue

A water main break on Wisconsin Avenue just north of Bradley Boulevard has part of the sidewalk closed off and caused a major traffic jam during the rush hour commute this morning.

The break occurred near the Adagio Apartments (6820 Wisconsin Ave.) and row of retail stores on southbound Wisconsin Avenue around 8:30 a.m. At 8:45 a.m. MCPD said the route was closed before advising some traffic was getting through but to avoid the area.

Traffic appeared to calm down before 9 a.m., when all MCPD, MCFRS and WSSC vehicles moved to the far right lane. Vehicles were moving through in the middle and left lanes.

The sidewalk in front of the Adagio, close to the U.S. Post Office at 6900 Wisconsin Ave., was closed off and could be for a long time. According to one MCFRS official on the scene, somebody observed the brick sidewalk buckle against the building, which led WSSC workers to the break.
