Shot fired at Walter Reed medical center

WASHINGTON – Shot have been fired at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after a woman allegedly trespassed onto the property Tuesday afternoon, Montgomery County police say.

The female driver has been taken into police custody.

Officials say the incident occurred shortly before noon when the suspect hit another car while leaving the facility. Security officers tried to intervene, but the woman attempted to strike one of them with her car. One officer was injured.

The car did not stop even after a Naval officer fired a warning shot. The suspect instead headed towards the North Gate and hit another patrol car.

She continued out of the facility and down Rockville Pike to Nebel Street where authorities eventually apprehended her.

Due to the ongoing police investigation, one lane is getting by on northbound Route 355 near Jones Bridge Road. Expect delays.
