Police obtain warrant in attempted kidnapping case

WASHINGTON – Detectives have a warrant for a suspect in the attempted kidnapping of a 13-year-old boy in Silver Spring.

The detectives, who are from the Family Crimes Division of Montgomery County Police Department, were notified by D.C. police Sunday afternoon that a person matching the description of the suspect was receiving treatment at a medical facility in the District.

Police have identified him as Rodney Murrell, 31, of southeast D.C. Detectives interviewed him at the facility where he was being treated prior to obtaining the warrant. As soon as Murrell is cleared medically, police say the extradition process will begin.

The kidnapping attempt happened Friday afternoon at the McDonald’s on Colesville Road in Silver Spring, according to police.
