WASHINGTON – A group of high school students are protesting the national school lunch policy with a music video parody of a well-known pop song.

The clip starts with a fact from Kidshealth.org that states active teens need between 2,000 and 5,000 calories per day to meet their growth and energy needs. The screen then jumps to a statement saying the school lunch policy mandates teens get between 750 and 850 calories per lunch.

Then, a drum beat kicks in, and a parody of the Fun song “We Are Young” begins with altered lyrics to suggest the teens are hungry.

“Give me some seconds, I need to get some food today, my friends are at the corner store getting junk so they don’t waste away,” the song begins.

Then, on to the chorus, “So if by the time, you go to practice, you feel like falling down, I’ll carry you home. Tonight, we are hungry. Set the policy on fire. We can burn brighter.”
