CVS takes Safeway space at Watergate

CVS has leased the former Safeway space at the Watergate complex in D.C. and plans to open a 13,000-square-foot store there next spring.

CVS will be the largest tenant in the Watergate’s retail plaza.

Penzance, which acquired the Watergate office building and retail space last year, says the CVS lease is the first of many new tenants coming to the retail plaza, though it did not elaborate.

Safeway closed its Watergate store, one of its smallest locations, in November 2011 after 45 years as part of the complex.
