The State Highway Administration has added the U.S. 15 work zone at Motter Avenue to the Maryland Safezones program, according to a news release from SHA.

Speed enforcement cameras will be set up on U.S. 15 beginning Tuesday. After a three-week warning period, citations will be issued beginning Oct. 2, according to the news release. Automated speed enforcement will continue until the end of the project. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2014.

The project includes replacing the Motter Avenue bridge over U.S. 15 with a wider bridge, widening Motter Avenue and Opossumtown Pike, and modifying the exit from U.S. 15 to Motter Avenue for improved traffic flow.

The Maryland Safezones program uses photography and laser technology to document speeders. A Maryland State Police trooper later certifies the violations. For the first three weeks, warnings will be sent. After the three-week period, a $40 civil citation will be mailed to the registered owner of a vehicle that is traveling 12 mph or more over the 55 mph speed limit, according to the news release.
