Man refuses to put down knife, is shot by D.C. police

Update: Police have identified the man as Albert Jermaine Payton, 24, of Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, 9:05 a.m. – A man who refused to put down his knife when confronted by D.C. police was shot by officers on Friday, according to a news release.

Authorities were called to the 4200 block of 4th Street in Southeast shortly before 6 p.m. for reports that a suspect was threatening “to do bodily harm,” the news releases states.

When officers arrived, the suspect was holding a knife and refused to put it down. One of the officers shot him.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he is being treated. No information was released regarding his condition.
