WASHINGTON – The D.C. police and the FBI are asking for the public’s assistance in tracking down those responsible for three bank break-ins, the latest occurring Friday.
“At approximately 2 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, one or more subjects broke into a vacant business cut through a wall in order to enter the M&T Bank next door at 1420 Wisconsin Avenue, NW,” says Jacqueline Maguire, Washington Field Office spokesperson.
Surveillance video captured footage of a subject wearing a white Tyvek suit and a blue baseball hat, but Maguire says when the “Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene, however, the subject had already fled.”
Two other similar break-ins have happened since May, 2011. Both have targeted the same Bank of America branch located at 2631 Connecticut Ave. N.W., using the same tactics.
Maguire says the most recent occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 17. “The subject(s), who wore white Tyvek suit(s) with black masks and black gloves, broke through the wall of a vacant business at 2633 Connecticut Ave., and in to the adjacent Bank of America next door, causing structural damage,” she says.
Nothing has been taken in either of the break-ins. Even though FBI and police believe robbery may be the motive and have collected some evidence, they have very limited information about the suspect’s identities.
Maguire says authorities want to hear from anyone, “if they heard anyone talk about these crimes, if they saw any suspicious behavior in any of these areas.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI Washington Field Office at 202-278-2000 or the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099.
