WASHINGTON – Severe thunderstorms and flash floods hit the D.C. region Thursday night, quickly causing thousands of outages.

A Flash Flood Warning was issued for D.C., Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria and was canceled at 1:00 a.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued Montgomery, Prince George’s, Arlington, Fairfax and Arlington counties and Alexandria that expired at 10:15 p.m.

As of 12:30 a.m. there were more than 20,000 outages in the region.

A power outage at the Bethesda Metro station had escalators leading to and from the platform out of service. That station remained open as Metro brought in buses.

High standing water has also been reported on parts of Rhode Island Ave. NW in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of D.C. — the same area that flooded last week.

Airports in the area also had major delays. As of 11:35 p.m. Reagan National and Dulles are delayed up to 2 hours and BWI for 75 minutes.

Pepco: 17,889

BGE: 2,153 mostly in Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties

Dominion: 1,625

Potomac Edison: 2,395
