Man dead after shootout with Fairfax Co. Police

MOUNT VERNON, Va. (AP) – Authorities say a man is dead after a shootout with police in Fairfax County.

The deceased man has been identified as Nicholas Kaelber, 21, of Woodbridge.

Police say the shootout happened late Sunday night in Mount Vernon, when officers approached two men they thought were acting suspiciously.

Kaelber then ran away, according to police, and fired shots at the officers during a struggle that followed. Authorities say an officer returned fire and shot Kaelber, who was pronounced dead at Mount Vernon Hospital.

None of the officers was injured, and police say they’re still looking for a second man.
