Be prepared when the lights go out

WASHINGTON – One certainty in life is that the power will go out.

Next time, will you be fumbling for matches and searching for batteries?

The time to prepare is now.

ETON has a variety of products that operate with solar power or a hand crank.

For $35, the Microlink is a radio, flashlight and a cellphone charger. Or you can try the slightly larger model for a little more juice.

For $15, Happy Camper offers a trio of handheld, battery-operated lanterns in a variety of colors.

Make sure they have batteries ahead of time and store them in multiple places and you’ll be ready whenever and wherever a blackout strikes.
