Tax burden grows in Montgomery County

WASHINGTON – Montgomery County keeps raising its taxes.

The Examiner reports residents in the Maryland county will pay 40 percent more in taxes next year than they did a decade ago.

Families making $150,000 have seen income taxes go up more than 3 percent since 2004, compared to no change in Fairfax County.

The Examiner reports Montgomery also has seen a 20 percent rise in its sales tax rate and a 100 percent rise in its cigarette tax. By 2014, the county will see a 50 percent hike in its beer tax.
