Maryland Department of Natural Resources starts annual photo contest

WASHINGTON – Calling all shutterbugs, snapping a picture of the great outdoors could get you $500.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is now accepting entries for its annual photo contest.

The grand prize winner gets $500, a 2013 Maryland State Park Passport, a lifetime subscription to the department’s magazine, and five copies of the department’s 2013 calendar.

The winning photo will also be on the cover of the calendar.

Photos entered into the contest will be judged in six categories: birds, wildlife, insects, scenic, wild plants and Maryland State parks or people enjoying.

First place winners in each of the categories will get a Maryland State Park passport, a two-year subscription to the magazine, and two copies of the departments calendars.

All of the photos must be taken in Maryland, but non-residents can apply.

All submissions are due by Aug. 31, 2012, and winners will be announced on Sept. 30.

Photographers can enter up to three entries for a $10 fee, any additional entries have an additional fee of $3.
