Local principal charged with embezzling $8,000

WASHINGTON – A local elementary school principal has been arrested and charged with spending $8,000 on the school’s credit card.

Prince William County Police charged Jenny Bermant, the principal at Kilby Elementary in Woodbridge, with embezzlement. It’s not clear what she spent the money on.

She’s been the principal at Kilby since 2010.

A school spokesman says she was put on administrative. leave two days ago.

A statement from the school district says the case reaffirms the checks and balances that ensure how funds are spent.

Bermant is out on bail.
