Va. man uses lottery winnings to win $1M Mega Millions prize

WASHINGTON – A Spotsylvania County man went on a bit of winning streak this week.

First, David Feaganes won $30 in the Virginia Lottery’s Decades of Dollars game. He then used those winnings to buy a ticket for the April 24 Mega Millions drawing, where he won $1 million before taxes. He even let the computer randomly pick his numbers.

The Virginia Lottery says he matched the first five numbers, but spent an extra dollar for the “Megaplier,” which increased his prize from $250,000.

Feaganes retired last year, and says he plans to invest his winnings.

The winning ticket was bought at the Fas Mart on Leavells Road just outside of Fredericksburg.
