WASHINGTON – Another drop in gas prices makes many people wonder if prices have peaked for the summer.

“After a 66-cent increase in gas prices per gallon since the beginning of the year, the recent decline in prices at the pump, albeit slow but steady, has motorists and analysts alike wondering if the 2012 gas price peak is behind us,” AAA Mid-Atlantic said in its weekly release.

Prices dropped three weeks in a row. Nationally, prices dropped a nickel this week to $3.82 a gallon.

In the D.C. metro region, prices dropped 7 cents to $3.91 a gallon. Just in D.C., prices are still above the 4-dollar mark at $4.03 but fell a dime from last week.

AAA says prices are 8 cents lower compared to one month ago and 5 cents lower than they were a year ago. Yet prices remain within 28 cents of the all-time record high of $4.11 per gallon, set nearly three years ago in July 2008.
