Time magazine out with ‘100 Most Influential’ in the world

WASHINGTON – Time magazine is out with its annual list of the “100 Most Influential People” in the world, and two iconic sports figures appear among the top five.

Time says the people who appear on the list are those “who inspire us, entertain us, challenge us and change our world.” They are breakouts, pioneers, moguls, leaders and icons.

New York Knicks phenom Jeremy Lin grabbed the number one spot as the most influential person.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan writes about Lin, “I don’t care whether you are an Asian-American kid, white, black or Hispanic, Jeremy’s story tells you that if you show grit, discipline and integrity, you too can get an opportunity to overcome the odds.”

Rounding out the top five are:

  1. Jeremey Lin – point guard
  2. Christian Marclay – artist
  3. Viola Davis – actress
  4. Salman Khan – educator
  5. Tim Tebow – quarterback

Lin, who writes about Tebow for Time, says “He is unashamed of his convictions and faith, and he lives a life that consistently reflects his values, day in and day out.”
