Va. train almost hits two men

WASHINGTON – A train bound for Manassas narrowly missed hitting two men Wednesday night.

The operator of Train 337 spotted two men on a bridge just before 8:30 p.m. at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, a Virginia Railway Express spokesman said.

Both men jumped from the bridge to avoid the train, injuring one of them.

The train stopped and an EMT on-board got out to help the injured man.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue officials arrived on the scene, but told VRE to put the man on the train and move him to a less remote location.

He was flown to a local hospital with serious injuries, although he is expected to recover.

The victim has only been identified as a 31-year-old.

The train resumed on its trip and arrived 90 minutes late.
