BWI terminal shut down after security gaffe

WASHINGTON – A terminal was shut down at BWI Marshall Airport Tuesday evening after a woman got past security without being fully screened.

The passenger was carrying a hand grenade lighter in her bag, ABC 7 reports. She had accidentally left it in there before going through security.

A BWI spokesman says the Transportation Security Administration asked them to shut down piers A and B around 8:50 p.m. until the woman could be found and re-screened.

The shutdown lasted about 30 minutes, but operations have since returned to normal.
