Car2Go gives Zipcar some new competition

WASHINGTON – Renting movies On Demand is quick and convenient, but now you can rent a car just as easily. Move over Zipcar, a new competitor has arrived in the nation’s capital.

Car2Go, an international car-sharing network, is making its debut in the nation’s capital Saturday.

Over 200 blue and white two-person Smart Cars are now parked along city streets waiting for rides.

After paying a one time fee, members gain access by finding an available car and simply pressing a membership card against a windshield card reader.

It’s a pay-by-the-minute plan and you can use it for as long as you like without having to worry about bringing it back by a certain time or location. Park it anywhere in the District when you’re finished and don’t worry about gas or cleaning — it’s all included.

If you’re in a rush and need to locate an available car, just download the smartphone app.
