Police seek help finding Laurel hit-and-run driver

WASHINGTON – Police are asking for the public’s help after a pedestrian was struck by a truck in Laurel on Wednesday and seriously injured.

The incident on Route 198 was caught on video by a nearby Metrobus’ onboard camera, and Prince George’s County police released the clip in hopes that someone with information will come forward.

The victim was walking on the sidewalk alongside Route 198 shortly after 2 p.m. when a white Ford F-250 swerved off of the road near the intersection with Route 1 and onto the sidewalk, striking the man who was knocked back about 20 feet. The man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The truck, which fled the scene, is believed to be a 2005 to 2007 with a damaged front end. It has green writing on its door and was last seen headed toward Anne Arundel County.

On Friday, police said the driver of the truck is believed to be a Hispanic man in his 30s or 40s.

Anyone with information is asked to call Laurel Police at (301) 498-0092.
